What is the Medicare Enhanced Primary Care (EPC) Program?
The Medicare Enhanced Primary Care (EPC) program, also known as the Chronic Disease Management (CDM) plan, is a government initiative designed to support individuals with chronic or complex medical conditions by providing access to subsidised allied health services, including chiropractic care. This program helps patients manage their health more effectively, improve mobility, and enhance overall quality of life.
How Does Bulk Billing Work?
At Family Life Chiropractic Newcastle, we are committed to making chiropractic care accessible and affordable. If you have an EPC referral, here’s what you can expect:
✔ Your initial consultation is fully bulk billed, meaning no out-of-pocket expense
✔ Standard consultations—eligible patients only pay a small gap fee (approximately $15 per visit)
✔ Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander patients may be eligible for up to 10 visits per calendar year under the Indigenous Health Plan
Who is Eligible?
To qualify for the EPC/CDM program, you must have a chronic medical condition that has been present for six months or longer and requires ongoing management. Examples of eligible conditions include:
✔ Chronic back or neck pain
✔ Postural imbalances or musculoskeletal conditions
✔ Arthritis or joint degeneration
✔ Sciatica and nerve-related pain
✔ Sports or work-related injuries requiring long-term care
Your General Practitioner (GP) will assess your condition and determine whether you qualify for the program. If eligible, your GP will create a Chronic Disease Management (CDM) Plan and provide a referral for up to five Medicare-funded chiropractic visits per year. Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander patients may be eligible for up to 10 visits per calendar year under the Indigenous Health Plan.
